When Dave Campbell’s Texas Football releases its annual magazine this summer which previews more than 1,400 high school football and college teams across the state, one of the Rio Grande Valley’s own will be front and center.Dave Campbell’s Texas Football announced it’s choice of Sharyland Pioneer senior quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger as the Class 5A cover boy on Friday.
Each class, from 6A to 1A to private schools, has its own cover inside this year’s edition of the DCTF Magazine. One player from each class was selected as the cover boy of their respective class. Marburger was chosen to represent 5A and have his story told over thousands of other players across Texas.
Still, Marburger was humble and gave credit to those around who helped him become the DCTF 5A cover boy.
“I’m very honored that they chose me out of all the 5A players in the state. I couldn’t do any of this without my teammates. I give them the credit,” he said. “I play for one reason and that’s to glorify my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.”
Often referred to as the “Bible to Texas football fans” for more than 61 years, DCTF is releasing a special double cover edition this summer which recognizes the 100 year anniversary of high school football being played in Texas, and Pioneer’s gunslinger will have a special place in it.
Marburger is coming off an all-state season as the 6 feet 3 inch quarterback led Sharyland Pioneer to a program-best 11-2 overall record and the District 16-5A DII championship. The Diamondbacks advanced to the third round of the playoffs as they captured the school’s first two playoff wins in program history this past season.
Marburger finished the year with 4,505 passing yards, 58 touchdown throws and a 66.1 completion percentage in 13 games. He also ran for 1,009 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.
Marburger’s 58 touchdown passes ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 8 in the nation. His 4,505 passing yards ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 9 in the nation,
Marburger recently committed to continue his football career at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The Diamondbacks QB joins Edinburg Vela offensive tackle Ronnie Garza as commits in UTSA’s 2021 recruiting class.
